Mercedes-Benz Considering Expanding Plug-In Hybrid Range in Australia
Mercedes-Benz Considering Expanding Plug-In Hybrid Range in Australia
Are you excited about the prospect of more PHEVs from Mercedes-Benz?
Mercedes-Benz Australia may be looking to expand its offering of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles in the country, according to the company’s local communications boss. While the brand currently has a limited selection of PHEVs, the door is open to future possibilities.
Mercedes-Benz Australia’s head of media relations, Jerry Stamoulis, revealed that the brand is always considering new products and listens to its customers and agents. While the current lineup in Australia does not include many PHEV options, there is a possibility for change in the future. The company has access to a diverse range of PHEVs globally, and if there is a compelling reason to introduce them in Australia, they will do so. However, the business case would need to be favorable.
Currently, Mercedes-Benz Australia offers PHEVs in the performance segment, such as the AMG C 63 S E Performance, AMG GLC 63 S E Performance, and GT 63 S E Performance 4 Door Coupe. However, in other markets, core models like the A-Class, C-Class, GLC, and GLE have more efficiency-focused PHEV options. Despite this, some PHEV models that were available in previous generations, like the A 250e, have been removed from the local lineup. The company has also not brought PHEV versions of the latest C-Class and GLC to Australia, despite their availability in other countries.
One example is the Mercedes-Benz GLE, which was initially promised as a PHEV option in Australia but has yet to be released. In comparison, competitors like BMW and Audi already offer PHEV options in the Australian market. While PHEVs have not seen the same level of sales as hybrids or electric vehicles (EVs), the growing interest in reducing emissions may lead to increased demand for PHEVs. Manufacturers are exploring various electrified options to comply with stricter emissions standards in Australia, including hybrids, more fuel-efficient internal combustion engines, and pure EVs.
- Mercedes-Benz has a wide range of PHEVs globally, but few in Australia
- The company is open to expanding its PHEV range in the country
- Market conditions and customer demand will play a role in the decision-making process
Mercedes-Benz Australia’s consideration of expanding its range of PHEVs shows a willingness to adapt to market conditions and customer preferences. As the demand for electrified vehicles continues to grow, it will be interesting to see if Mercedes-Benz introduces more PHEV options to cater to Australian consumers.
